Jeans. Each season I get obsessed with a few brands. My present favourites are Superfine (I love their skinny jeans), a Japanese brand called RNA, and Acne, a new jeans brand.

What do you always wear?

I'm exposed to so much and wear many different things. I have a favourite item each season. I always invest in a good winter coat that will hold up in New York during February. The one I have now is a long black military coat from Dries Van Noten that I bought last season. I'll definitely be wearing it this winter.

Fashion no-nos?

I'm tall and slim, so I get away with a lot, but I have to be careful as I approach 40. This season I'll wear a short sweater dress with opaque tights and flat knee boots, but I would never wear a shorter length in the summer with bare legs. This has been my personal no-no for the past four years. I also tend not to wear prints.

This season's handbag and shoe pick?

For handbag, it's the Mulberry Roxy in vintage brown. For shoes, flat distressed nubuck knee-high boots from Prada.

Three of your favourite designers?

Roland Mouret, Neil Barrett and Alber Elbaz for Lanvin.

Must-have accessory?

Striped, long skinny scarf from Burberry Prorsum and long black beaded necklaces from Erickson Beamon.

Most cherished fashion item?

It's not a fashion item so much as a timeless classic: I wear my dad's 1960s oversized Rolex Seamaster watch.

Style icon?

Kate Moss.

Most expensive fashion item?

All my expensive items are fashion investments such as my Hermes Birkin bag. My couture Valentino wedding dress probably takes the prize for the single most expensive item in my wardrobe.

Your fashion style?

I wear so many different things, from a fitted Roland Mouret dress and Libertine jacket to skinny jeans and Dries Van Noten. It all depends on how I feel. Whatever I wear, I don't want to have to think about it once it's on.

Boho or lady-like?

Depends on the season. I've had enough of the boho look, so this season it's more ladylike for me.

Flats or stilettos?

Both. I love to wear heels, but I'm just as happy in my Marc Jacobs mouse flats.

High-end or high street?

Both. I always mix it up.

Fashion disaster?

I had a new pair of six-inch, dark-green, lizard-skin Christian Louboutin shoes that I got caught in a grate in New York. The material on the heels peeled off like a banana skin and were beyond repair. As for other disasters, I'm sure that anyone who looks back on photos of what they wore in the 1980s wonders what they were thinking.
